Maintenance Facilities Supervisor


Job Summary

Responsible for maintenance of the distribution center building and grounds. Maintains building and equipment to minimize down time and achieve safety goals. Follows appropriate guidelines for these functions. Oversees the activities of the facilities staff. People management responsibilities include training, planning and assigning daily work, performance management, and conflict resolution.


Essential Functions

  • Oversee and organize facilities staff;
  • Provides direction, assigns responsibilities and motivates the facilities staff to achieve department goals;
  • Coordinates facilities staff directing workflow and delegating tasks;
  • Maintains facility infrastructure, equipment and systems to ensure operation and minimize down time;
  • Follows preventive maintenance program for all equipment;
  • Makes prompt repair of equipment to limit down time;
  • Maintains electronic and paper maintenance records;
  • Organizes and enforces sanitation procedures;
  • Monitors grounds for proper care and appearance;
  • Works closely with management on safety and sanitation issues;
  • Monitors and organizes outside contractors for quality and cost effectiveness;
  • Available for on call duties.
  • Provides training to personnel, in compliance with standard operating procedures, to ensure that all department members fully understand and consistently execute all job duties.
  • Supervises personnel including setting expectations for behavior and collaborating with the DC Manager to resolve personnel issues.
  • Participates in the performance review process and makes recommendations for promotions and identifies and communicates the need for disciplinary action when appropriate.
  • Communicates distribution center, network, and corporate information
  • Administer policies/procedures in a fair and consistent manner
  • Professionally address issues with employees utilizing the proper resources.
  • May participate in the interviewing and selection process by making recommendations to the DC Manager regarding hiring decisions.
  • Establishes, supports, promotes and participates in network, facility and departmental activities designed to strengthen and improve moral, team work and improve the overall work environment.
  • Identifies and addresses safety hazards and coach personnel in safety initiatives.
  • Maintains housekeeping standards and ensures that all sanitation requirements are met.
  • Reviews and corrects timesheets on a daily basis for accurate submission to payroll

Other Functions

  • Keeps the distribution center aisles clear and maintains integrity of storage locations;
  • Maintains the housekeeping and sanitation standards of the distribution center;
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Working Environment

The distribution center is a warehouse for the storage and distribution of dental, medical and veterinary supplies and equipment. In general, the building's primary work area consists of pallet storage racking, roller storage and small item storage shelving. The facility uses powered conveyor systems for the transportation of products. Pallet jacks and forklifts are used for palletized products. Some positions require use of safety equipment, which is provided as needed.


Job Qualifications

Education/Training & Skills

  • Post high school mechanical or building trades, or equivalent combination of education and work experience accepted;
  • Competent computer skills, and experience using computerized maintenance systems is preferred;
  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail and follow through to resolve any outstanding issues;
  • Strong time management skills;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read, understand and utilize equipment manuals;
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task, as well as delegate and direct workflow;
  • Ability to effectively communicate with and manage outside contractors and vendors;
  • Possess internal customer service skills;
  • Knowledge of current laws and standards applicable to equipment and building maintenance, and facility security;
  • Ability to recognize individual's strengths and weaknesses for hiring and performance evaluations of facilities staff;
  • Ability to evaluate procedures and initiate improvements.

Relevant Work Experience

  • Three (3) plus years of experience in building trades and/or machine repairs, including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc.;
  • Three (3) plus years of experience in a management capacity;
  • Three (3) plus years of experience in preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of material handling equipment, conveyor systems, and automated equipment.
  • Demonstrated success in leadership roles and consistent achievement record in all work or school related activities.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
